92% of IT Jobs Will Change Due to AI: A New Future for Tech Workers

Artificial intelligence (AI) is set to bring big changes to the world, especially in how technology jobs are done. A group called the AI-Enabled ICT Workforce Consortium, which includes companies like Cisco, Accenture, and Google, has released a report called “The Transformational Opportunity of AI on ICT Jobs.” This report says that 92% of IT jobs will see big or moderate changes because of AI.

Most Changes in Mid-Level and Entry-Level Jobs

The report highlights that jobs in the middle and at the entry level will see the biggest changes. As AI takes over simple tasks, some skills and roles will become less important, while new skills will be needed more. Jobs like traditional data management and basic programming will be less relevant. On the other hand, skills in AI ethics, responsible AI, quick problem-solving, and AI literacy will be in high demand.

To do well in this new environment, tech workers will need to learn important new skills, such as understanding AI, analyzing data, and quickly solving problems. The group emphasizes the importance of helping workers learn and improve these skills so they can keep up with changes.

Looking at Different Tech Roles

The consortium’s report looks at the effect of AI on 47 different tech jobs, grouped into seven areas: business and management, cybersecurity, data science, design and user experience, infrastructure and operations, software development, and testing and quality assurance.

Training Promises from Big Companies

Knowing that a skilled workforce is crucial, the group’s members have made big promises about training:

  • Cisco: Plans to train 25 million people in cybersecurity and digital skills by 2032.
  • IBM: Aims to train 30 million people in digital skills by 2030, including 2 million in AI by 2026.
  • Intel: Intends to train over 30 million people with AI skills by 2030.
  • Microsoft: Plans to train and certify 10 million people in digital skills by 2025, having already surpassed this goal early.
  • SAP: Plans to upskill 2 million people worldwide by 2025.
  • Google: Will provide more than $130 million to support AI training and skills globally.

Building an Inclusive AI Workforce

Francine Katsoudas, who leads people, policy, and purpose at Cisco, highlights the group’s dedication to inclusivity: “AI offers a unique chance for technology to help everyone, and we must ensure no one is left behind.” By investing in training and skill improvement, the group wants to make sure everyone can join and succeed in the AI future.
