Joe Biden’s Post-Super Bowl Laser-Eyes Meme Causes Bitcoin Buzz
After the Super Bowl, US President Joe Biden made a keen-eyed social media post that unintentionally connected him to the Bitcoin movement. As anticipated, the meme was unrelated to the well-known cryptocurrency.
In the words of the meme, “Just Like We Drew It Up”
With the caption “just like we drew it up,” Biden shared a photo of himself beaming with pride after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the 2024 Super Bowl. Crypto fans initially believed the meme had something to do with Bitcoin, but this was not the case.
Dark Brandon Meme: A Conspiracy Twist
The “Dark Brandon” meme, which makes reference to a conspiracy theory claiming that the Super Bowl was rigged to guarantee Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift’s boyfriend, would win, has the laser-eyed profile photo. After the win, it was allegedly the intention for Swift to support Biden for president.
Biden’s social media team has previously embraced the Dark Brandon meme and uses it to give the president’s persona a hint of edge. The post jokingly suggests that Biden was the driving force behind the Chiefs’ victory.
The Crypto Community Reacts
Crypto fans responded to the surprise meme with brevity. Some conjectured about its possible influence on the ETH/BTC trend, but others charged Biden with cultural appropriation. Notably, President Biden has taken a neutral or even hostile position toward digital assets and has not supported any legislation pertaining to cryptocurrencies.
President Biden has not openly endorsed any cryptocurrency, despite what was initially believed to be the case. Biden is classified as “against crypto,” with five public statements indicating a generally negative attitude toward digital assets, according to Coinbase’s advocacy group, Stand with Crypto.
The Phenomenon of Laser Eyes: A Positive Sign for Bitcoin
The phenomenon of laser eyes became well-known as a representation of a bullish attitude toward Bitcoin. Originally a part of a social media campaign, the objective was not met: by the end of 2021, the price of Bitcoin was supposed to reach $100,000. Notable individuals who have adopted the laser-eyed style in the past include Elon Musk, Paris Hilton, and NFL player Tom Brady.
Super Bowl: Jack Dorsey Gives a Direct Nod to Bitcoin
Although Biden’s post caused a stir in the cryptocurrency world, Block CEO Jack Dorsey (previously Square) mentioned Bitcoin more directly. At the Super Bowl, Dorsey was seen sporting a Satoshi T-shirt, which was inspired by the well-known Nirvana t-shirts and featured a happy face from the band’s 1991 album Nevermind.
Amidst the post-Super Bowl frenzy, Biden’s inadvertent acknowledgment of the Bitcoin community underscores the growing convergence of popular culture, memes, and the cryptocurrency realm.
