Lyceum Inaugurates Philippines’ First-Ever Esports Arena
Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) celebrated the grand opening of the LPU ESports Arena, a first-of-its-kind facility in the nation, commemorating a historic milestone. Lyceum’s dedication to innovation and technology was reaffirmed on Monday at the university’s Intramuros campus, where the inauguration took place.
Leading the Way in Esports Education
The establishment of the esports arena by Lyceum, the first university in the Philippines to offer esports as a degree program, is consistent with the institution’s commitment to promoting innovations in the industry. Game Design & Development and ESports Management are the two specialty courses offered in Lyceum’s four-year BS ESports program.
Ms. Jennifer D. Tucpi, LPU’s OIC for Academic Affairs, highlighted the school’s dedication to innovation and giving students a chance to succeed in a field that is changing the entertainment and competitive scene in addition to expanding quickly.
Modern Arena with Incorporation of Education
Modern amenities at the LPU ESports Arena include a production area, cutting-edge lighting, a sound system, and a special green room for streaming. Known as an “arena with a twist of education,” according to LPU’s ICT Director Noel Punongbayan, the facility blends the excitement of esports with the instructional materials required to improve students’ abilities and understanding.
The head of the organization, Atty. Roberto P. Laurel acknowledged his early hesitation before sharing his journey from skepticism to support for the esports industry. He acknowledged that at first he wasn’t convinced about the concept and wondered if arcades were the right place for gaming. But a more thorough comprehension of the possible effects on learning and pupils persuaded him to accept the arena’s construction.
Driven by Collaborations
As Asus is a partner of Lyceum, its computers and gadgets power the esports arena, guaranteeing that students have access to cutting-edge technology for both their academic and recreational endeavors. The facility is situated in the main LPU building on the third floor.
By embracing esports as a legitimate and significant topic of study, Lyceum’s move not only puts the university at the forefront of esports education in the Philippines but also emphasizes how esports may be integrated into academic and educational settings.
