Crypto Goes Mainstream
CVCPH2025 marks crypto’s growing acceptance in the Philippines. With major sponsors like GCrypto and Coins.ph(90M+ combined users), the conference highlighted crypto’s evolution from speculation to practical use.
During the morning panel The Future of Decentralized Finance: How Blockchain is Redefining Traditional Finance, experts discussed blockchain’s ongoing impact on banking and remittances.
Coins.ph Country Manager Jen Bilango explained how crypto stablecoins reduce remittance fees, benefiting consumers. From a hefty 3-6% transactions costs, stablecoins would drop fess to less than 0.5%. Consumers could take the savings and make more empowered investment decisions.
Meanwhile, YGG Philippines’ Mench Dizon introduced the Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) initiative. While remittances had drawn much attention, virtual work opportunities enabling Filipinos to earn global wages from home needed more focus.
The MFW movement empowers Filipinos to work in emerging fields like crypto and AI. These industries typically allow Filipinos to work from anywhere, enabling them to stay with loved ones.
Revving Up with Blockchain
During another notable presentation, Luis Buenaventura of GCrypto shared how he used Bitcoin as collateral to purchase a new Tesla. The crypto thought leader had recently showcased his Tesla acquisition on social media, saving the full explanation for the conference.
Bitcoin lending has grown rapidly in recent years. Decentralized finance platforms like AAVE let users borrow against their Bitcoin holdings, while centralized exchanges like Coinbase have launched Bitcoin-backed loans to serve crypto users.
Since U.S. regulators approved the Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) in January 2024, both retail and institutional investors have shown increasing interest in Bitcoin.
Other popular sessions included AI-focused talks and breakout rooms featuring emerging players like Gainers Ground, a crypto trading education company.
