Off the Grid Token Plunges 40% After Binance Debut
Web3 gaming fans bet on Off the Grid (OTG) to spark a Web3 gaming market surge.
Launched by Gunzilla Games, the cyberpunk shooter has earned gameplay praise. However, its GUN token has tanked over 40% since its March 31, 2025, Binance listing, dashing hopes and igniting backlash.
What is Off the Grid?
Off the Grid (OTG) is a battle royale shooter set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. Built on the GUNZ network, an Avalanche Layer-1 blockchain, OTG pits 150 players against each other in player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) combat.
The game launched in early access on October 8, 2024, and is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Billed as a rare “AAA” Web3 title, it offers a 60-hour narrative alongside optional blockchain features. In a future update, players can earn and trade NFTs, such as weapons and skins, using GUN tokens.
The game exploded in popularity, hitting 14.5 million wallet creations by April 2025.
Streamers like Ninja amplified their hype, pushing it to the top of Epic Games’ free-to-play charts. Yet, its Web3 promise now hangs in the balance.
Token Launch Controversy
The GUN token debuted on Binance at $0.10 on March 31, 2025. By April 2, it had crashed below $0.06, a 40%+ nosedive. Poor market conditions played a role, but X critics have zeroed in on more profound issues.
- No Mainnet, No Utility – The GUNZ mainnet isn’t live. Without in-game token use, there’s no token sink or deflationary driver. Market participants see less upside, leaving GUN adrift.
- Binance Farmers Cash In – Most tokens went to Binance Launchpool stakers, not OTG players. Some speculate Binance strong-armed this split for the listing, sidelining the game’s community.
- Tokenomics U-Turn – A last-minute email blindsided early investors. Instead of being promised unlocked tokens at launch, investors found themselves locked for 12 months. Either they accepted the terms or got refunded without interest. Trust took a hit.
- Node Operators Snubbed – GUNZ node buyers, who spent thousands, did not receive an airdrop. Expected rewards vanished, leaving Web3 community backers fuming.
The fallout has been brutal.
While OTG’s gameplay shines, its token woes threaten to derail its Web3 ambitions and take down the Web3 gaming market. Critics warn this could signal broader cracks in Web3 gaming’s perception. For now, Off the Grid is a high-stakes experiment that people hope to pay off.
