Prada to Launch NFTs Along with Timecapsule Product
Prada is the latest fashion brand to launch NFTs — non-fungible tokens — on the blockchain. Prada will debut its first solo NFTs on Thursday, June 2, 2022. The luxury fashion brand will airdrop 100 NFTs along with its new Timecapsule launch. This limited Prada collection features physical button-down shirts created in collaboration with Cassius Hirst. There will be 100 shirts and NFTs in total. The Prada Timecapsule presents a new item on the first Thursday of every month, an online exclusive for 24 hours only.
How can you mint a Prada NFT?
Created in collaboration with Cassius Hirst, the Prada Timecapsule drop #30 features a once-off unique technical fabric shirt. The shirts are decorated with Cassius Hirst’s signature mask and brain scan designs, both symbolizing unity and togetherness. Collectors must buy a physical item on their e-commerce website in order to get an NFT for free.
Prada used the Aura Blockchain Consortium for the new drop. Created by Prada, LVMH, and Cartier, this nonprofit platform offers blockchain solutions for other companies.
How will the new Prada NFTs look?
The new Prada NFTs are GIFs of black or white capsule. Its minimalist design reflects the brand’s unique luxury fashion style.
The NFTs have the same colors as their corresponding physical shirt, both featuring red details and the iconic Prada logo. This means that if you purchase a black shirt, you will also get a black Prada capsule NFT.
Are luxury fashion NFTs the new trend?
Many luxury fashion brands have recently adopted blockchain technology and begun releasing NFTs. Louis Vuitton, Versace, Cartier and Fendi are just a few examples of luxury companies that have released NFTs. These are digital collectibles that represent clothes or accessories that customers can own and interact with using blockchain technology. For example, Dolce and Gabbana, in collaboration with UNXD, released a collection titled Collezione Genesi, which consists of nine pieces: five NFTs that were accompanied by custom physical pieces and four strictly digital NFTs. The collection sold out for a shocking $6 million.
Holding enormous potential and what seems like endless new opportunities for the future of fashion, NFTs have certainly caught the eye of luxury fashion houses.
