Sony Revamps Amber Platform to Launch New Crypto Exchange in Japan

Sony is making waves in the cryptocurrency world with its latest venture, a new crypto exchange set to launch in Japan. This development follows the acquisition and rebranding of the local trading platform Amber Japan, now known as S.BLOX Co.

A New Chapter for Amber Japan

Sony’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Quetta Web Co., acquired Amber Japan in August 2023. Originally known as DeCurret and later WhaleFin, the platform has undergone significant changes under Sony’s ownership. The newly named S.BLOX Co. is gearing up for a fresh start, featuring a redesigned user interface and a user-friendly mobile app.

Strategic Collaborations and Innovations

S.BLOX Co. plans to work closely with Sony Group’s other businesses to enhance the value of its crypto trading services. This collaborative effort is expected to bring innovative features and a seamless experience to users.

Sony has been actively expanding its footprint in the Web3 space. Last year, Sony Network Communications teamed up with Japanese blockchain firm Startale Labs to develop Sony’s public blockchain network. Sota Watanabe, founder and CEO of Startale Labs, recently announced on social media that an external director from Startale will lead Sony’s new crypto exchange.

Sony’s Broader Web3 Ambitions

In addition to launching S.BLOX, Sony has been exploring various aspects of the Web3 ecosystem. The tech giant filed a patent last year for “super-fungible tokens,” aiming to provide more flexible use of NFTs as in-game assets. This move signifies Sony’s commitment to integrating blockchain technology into its core business areas, including gaming.

The exact launch date for S.BLOX has not been announced yet. However, the crypto community is eagerly awaiting further updates as Sony continues to build its presence in the digital asset space. With a strong focus on innovation and user experience, S.BLOX is poised to become a significant player in Japan’s cryptocurrency market.

Stay tuned for more updates as Sony prepares to unveil its new crypto exchange, promising a blend of cutting-edge technology and robust trading solutions.
