YGG Pilipinas Rebrands to Represent Broader Mission in Web3 Ecosystem
Since its inception in late 2020, Yield Guild Games (YGG)s, has been a driving force in the open Metaverse, consistently demonstrating its commitment to providing opportunities to level up. YGG has extended its mission beyond just level-ups and now focuses on such things as ownership, decentralization, and even tokenomics.
A Global View
YGG is revolutionizing the concept of decentralized brand systems with its “building blocks” model. Through this system, group members and sub-DAOs can collaborate to reimagine the YGG brand in a way that is truly owned by everyone. This shared responsibility not only promotes greater community involvement but also reinforces YGG’s ethos of collective growth, underscoring the idea that what people create together is always stronger than what they might achieve alone. YGG’s initiative to foster collaborative innovation through our rebranding efforts speaks to our commitment to redefining web3 guilds and remaining at the forefront of decentralization.
YGG is transforming its illustration systems through its creative use of symbology from medieval lore, gaming cultures, and more. Their rune-based system allows them to represent communities uniquely, with each block representing an individual member of the whole. This creates an interactive environment for any YGG subDAO or sub guild to create their logo or sigil that is still aligned with the broader network. Furthermore, allowing users to create a digital “coat of arms” within a fixed frame such as a shield makes it easy to tie back to the industry-leading visual language of the original YGG brand. It’s this commitment to innovation and connecting people with powerful imagery that will ensure YGG remains on top for years to come.
The organization’s Country Manager, Luis Buenaventura II, remarked that the new emblem represents the organization’s broader goals. As YGG Pilipinas’s mission develops beyond the gaming industry, the organization needs a brand that could represent it in a range of businesses and communities.
Introducing the New YGG Pilipinas
YGG Pilipinas is ushering in a new age of connectedness and globalization through its new logo, modeled after the Kalinga Sun. Rehts Merajilla, Creative Director for the organization, used a puzzle-like system of the runes used in the global rebrand to convey YGG Pilipinas’ ambition of having a far-reaching influence across the world. Through this, YGG Pilipinas is creating a oneness that transcends borders and nations, with each symbol entwined delicately within one unified illustration.
In the medieval ages, a guild was a trading group that signified the gathering together of artisans and skilled workers. It was a tribe, represented by a coat of arms or sigil, which could be worn to demonstrate allegiance to the group. The YGG Pilipinas design team intended to honor the culture and history of guilds while creating a logo that gamers of all ages could support.
The bright colors of the logo show the diversity of the YGG Pilipinas community and its goal to encourage people and groups to work together and be creative in the Web3 gaming environment as YGG Pilipinas grows and pushes the limits of the Web3 ecosystem.
The “Y” in YGG was redesigned into a forward-facing “Y” in the new logo, giving it a “medieval meets digital” style. Likewise, the tiny upward movement of the descender in the letter “Y” is a hint to the community regarding “yield” — a term that represents growth and gaining rewards.
Instead of choosing colors with a medieval motif, such as brown and gray, YGG drew inspiration from firms like Nintendo, whose game The Legend of Zelda uses a cheerful and welcoming color scheme. Because YGG is a community of individuals with diverse origins and aspirations, the design team wanted to include the entire color spectrum so that each player can choose their hero color as they progress through the guild.
We incorporated a variety of hues into our new brand to reflect the diversity of our expanding community and the variety of identities and personalities of its members. We didn’t settle for a single hue, as we encourage everyone within YGG to choose and develop their own identity.
The Bigger Picture
Web3 Metaversity is a strong testament to YGG’s commitment to advancing tech and fostering knowledge in the region. It is a comprehensive project designed to provide users with access to the best educational resources possible, guiding them on their journey toward mastering the metaverse.
Together with enabling the community through Web3 Metaversity, YGG has broadened its goal to include other key areas like ownership and decentralization. This is shown by programs like the Guild Advancement Program (GAP), an achievement-driven community token distribution protocol that rewards guild members for active participation with YGG-branded Soulbound Tokens (SBTs) that they can use to develop their Metaverse resume.
YGG Pilipinas has similarly taken a huge step towards decentralizing gaming. We took the remarkable initiative of admitting 20,000 Axie Infinity scholars, paving the way for further establishment of their mission. The Philippine Web3 Festival marked an inflection point and was yet another milestone met by YGG Pilipinas – it was the first and largest Web3 event in the country.
Through this effort and many others since, YGG Pilipinas has demonstrated its genuine commitment to fostering growth within the Web3 ecosystem, from casual players learning about the blockchain-based activity to industry experts who have seen its value firsthand; most recently underlined in our updated brand identity as a statement to our constant dedication to empowerment and education.
